Update

Glenister Geoscience Slides
Ian and I have not received any new metadata information and since all of the images have already been processed have not been working on the Glenister collection much.

Daily Iowan Newspaper Collection
Ian and I continue to develop a way to batch process the Daily Iowan files. Currently we are using Photoshop to perform batch cropping. First we separate the years pages by school year (the newspapers have been bound into volumes by school year) and even and odd pages. Then a using a cropping action and batch processing to crop the images. We have then been looking at the cropped images and fixing files that have text cut off. So far this process is working alright but is still not perfect because throughout the volumes the text location on the page changes due to the page orientation.

The time to process one years files (336 files) using batch cropping has been reduced to 2 hours to crop and convert tiff files to jpeg. Prior to using batch processing this process was taking over 4 hours to complete a years worth of files. From talking with people there are a couple of other options that Ian and I should look into for batch cropping files.

This Week:
Ian and I need to make decisions about the interfaces that will be used for the Glenister and Daily Iowan collections. We have contacted Tiffany to see if there is any new metadata information for us. We will continue to process Daily Iowan files and look into new methods of batch processing files.
